Activities focused on bird studies and conservation have been empirically proven to contain a high amount of engaging and educational content, empowering students to learn and grow. You'll learn, on many levels, how to solve the world's problems like an engineer and support environmental justice along the way. You'll learn to think outside the box, be unconventional, be creative, and be groundbreaking.
Skills useful for any career path.
In 2013, high school teacher Jeff Manker ran a debut elective in ornithology, the study of birds. He put together a class on mechanics of flight, nest building, egg production, field observations, and more. But the class wasn't just for future bird biologists: it attracted a diversity of students from science and non-science backgrounds alike, introducing them to possible career pathways and subjects they may have never considered, from architecture to biochemistry.
Unfortunately, ornithology classes did not grow in number due to a lack of textbook, curriculum, and programming. Bird2Branch was created keeping in mind Manker as an inspiration, and we hope to further grow outreach and education on behalf of the compelling world of birds.
